Efficiency and Lack of Commitment in an Overlapping Generations Model with Distributional Shocks∗
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper considers a pure exchange stochastic overlapping generations model in which agents live for two periods. At each date, either a young or an old agent has larger endowments than the other, which is stochastically determined. In addition to the uncertainty, commitment cannot be externally enforced in this economy. In this environment, I suggest a transfer rule from a young agent to an old agent, and investigate a condition under which an equilibrium allocations are interim Pareto efficient subject to the self-enforcement constraint. The main finding is the characterization of the cut-off transfer level above (resp. below) which the allocation induced by the transfer rule is (resp. not) interim Pareto efficient. Investigating the risk-taking behavior of the banking industry in the form of the general equilibrium model of overlapping generations (OLG)
In this paper, using a general equilibrium model of overlapping generations, the impact of different financing plans of the banking industry on their risk-taking motivation is investigated. In the non-competitive banking industry, financing is done by imposing taxes on the older generation or the bankchr('39')s internal resources (bank shares). As an effective policy, this action optimizes soci...
متن کاملAnalyzing an Aging Population—A Dynamic General Equilibrium Approach∗
This paper shows the macroeconomic and welfare implications of an aging population in the United States, using a heterogeneous-agent overlapping-generations model with uninsurable idiosyncratic working ability shocks and mortality shocks. The model uses three population projections in Social Security Administration (2003), and generates economies as equilibrium transition paths from 1961 to 220...

Abstract The overall purpose of this research was to analyze the Families and Community’s involvement in the educational and managerial processes of schools using The “Overlapping Spheres of Influence” Theoretical Model. The research method was an explanatory (quantitative - qualitative) combination. The statistical population consisted of all teachers, administrators and parents of elementary...
متن کاملThe Survey of Conditions for Establishment of the Double Dividend Hypothesis: An Overlapping Generations Approach.
This paper, we analyze the double-dividend issues by the design of overlapping generations approach. We characterize the necessary conditions for the obtaining a double dividend, i.e. an improvement of environmental and non-environmental welfare when the revenue of the pollution taxis recycled into a change of the labor tax rate. We show that first advantage of the double dividend theory depend...
متن کاملCalibration of Fair Social Discount Rate in Utilizing Iran Oil Resources: An Islamic View Point
There is a long tradition in economics about the question of whether intergenerational discounting is fair or not. Ramsey (1928) was the first economist that criticized the discounting and mentioned that the just rate of discounting is zero. In this paper it was tried to calculate the just rate of discounting for Iran with respect to Islamic thoughts. According to Islam, intergenerational just...
